2023 BET Awards: The winners; tributes to Tina Turner, Takeoff; an honor for Busta Rhymes; and top pics

Operating system ANGELES — The 2023 BET Grants celebrated 50 years of hip-bounce with recognitions for the class’ earliest voices, late legends, and new ability during a show loaded with tremendous exhibitions that reliably felt like a party.

Sunday’s greatest shock came when Quavo and Balanced, the enduring individuals from Migos, performed “Terrible and Boujee” before a picture of Departure, who passed on in a shooting last December.

“Wager, do it for Take,” the pair yelled close to the start of their set, as their scenery changed from the picture of a space transport to one of Departure pointing in the air.

All through the show, whether it was Tupac, Infamous B.I.G., Business Markie or Pop Smoke, entertainers and emcee Youngster Capri gave recognition to late hip-bounce stars, frequently by rapidly featuring a sample of their most popular hits. In a show where few awards were given, Capri and BET kept the emphasis on the music.

Busta Rhymes took home the night’s biggest honor, the Lifetime Achievement Award, handed to him by Swizz Beatz. The 12-time Grammy Award nominated rapper, producer, and pioneering hip-hop figure is widely regarded as one of the great MCs, with seven Top 10 Billboard Hot 100 hits to his name. Read the full story here:
